Haha, the most popular word in Toruń is: "Jo". People who live here a long time use it too much ;DDD

do you celebrate Easter somehow?

in Poland we do because catholic traditions are very strong here. we eat eggs, and cook a lot of another food, meats etc. we meet with our family on a breakfast on Sunday when everyone wishes each other something nice, dividing their eggs. and Easter Monday in Poland is called "Sprinkling Monday" [it's my translation so I'm not sure if it's clear ;>]. boys sprinkle girls which they like with water. it's a nice tradition but some people are so stupid to come with a bucket of water and pour it on you. or on an old lady with her dog.
I think I don't know all traditions because some of them are probably forgotten, but these are main and celebrated by the biggest number of people. ;D

we have several of them :

we have a sort of walkings with many people and carrying religious pictures and escultures.. it's weird... and we also wear sort of ku klux klan costumes.. xD it's difficult to explain.. in fact i have worn one of this costumes this easter.. and i had to carry with one of the religious images .. you know it's funny .. and here you are some pictures : http://www.beninar.com/Images/semanasanta.jpg

this is a famous one http://www.malaga-hotel-andalucia.com/fotos/virgen_del_rocio1.jpg

more: http://www.ayuntamientohuelva.es/ciudad/puerta/web/images/c1b01.jpg

and so on.. if you google in pictures the words "procesiones semana santa"
you could see more photos

another special tradition that we only have here in Salamanca is a one called "Monday of waters" [maybe you already know about that because of the other forum] well, several year ago, prostitutes and whores had to leave the city in easter and the 40 days before easter and they had to cross to the other side of our river, then , the first monday after easter they returned so the people of the city waited for wellcome them in the river side eating and drinking.. nowadays the whores don't leave the city in easter of course, but we still go to the riverside or the countryside and we have some special food of this day or just meat pie or whatever...!

Do you have a tradition at the first of may? We have one! We put up a painted tree in the centre of a city - may tree!

well, in fact, in Poland there used to be a, let's call it tradition of first of May but it was Day of Work, mostly celbrated in the past[I mean 10-15 years ago], but now also remembered. now people sometimes connect it with 1 May 2004 when Poland joined EU. but on 3rd of May it's one of the biggest polish national holiday - Day of Constitution which was signed on 3rd May 1791 and was firt constitution in Europe and second in the world [after American one]. so we have something called May Long Weekend [because we have free days from 1st to 3rd of May] which has just ended yesterday.
hope you'll understand. xD

ehhmmm, it's hard to define. it's still remembered, it's free of work but I think not celebrated so much as in the psat. it's more celebrated as a part of the May Long Weekend I think.
